1House.
Client
Problem
Solution
As the Art Director, I led discussions with clients to determine the project's goals, design aesthetics, and functionality. Additionally, I developed the brand toolkit, wireframes, designs, and oversaw the building of the final experience.
Since 1House lacked any external branding or website, they enlisted the services of Ceros to experiment with their software. The hope was that this would enable them to use the software for their own clients and also create their first external-facing website that would introduce 1House to the world. Additionally, because 1House had limited branding with regards to colors, logos, and fonts, they tasked Ceros with developing a digital brand language from scratch. This new branding needed to be bold, lively, and convey a sense of youthful energy as the new kids on the block.
After receiving 1House's one-page brand guidelines, I researched top-performing agencies and held extensive conversations with them to gain a clear understanding of what 1House required. My first step was to create a digital brand kit, emphasizing user interface, interactions, and animations, which would allow for flexibility if the project direction changed.

Role
One of Australia's largest liquor distribution companies, Asahi/CUB, came to the decision that relying on external agencies to create marketing and social campaigns for their various brands was not as cost-effective and efficient as they would have liked. Therefore, they chose to establish an in-house advertising agency called 1House. Since its inception, 1House has evolved into a multi-disciplinary agency that combines design, technology, art, and strategy to produce cutting-edge, award-winning work and experiences. Headquartered in Australia with partners located worldwide, 1House has become a renowned agency in the industry.

1House initially focused on building their team and refining their skills, which allowed them to broaden their client base to include liquor companies beyond their parent company. This expansion transformed 1House into a comprehensive advertising agency. However, in order to accomplish this goal, 1House needed to establish a distinct brand identity that was separate from their parent company but still shared some similarities.
Once 1House approved the digital design direction, I proceeded to create low fidelity website wireframes, focusing on their specific needs and goals. The objective was to achieve a minimalist and bold long-scroll design that highlighted 1House's capabilities and showcased their work and team, while incorporating calls to action to match. Unfortunately, we encountered budgeting conflicts and couldn't get the final approval of the Ceros subscription to execute the website concept. However, 1House loved the concept and direction we created and requested to use our designs on a different platform. You can view their final result here.
Google Workspace.
As a digital designer, I played a crucial role in collaborating with clients to identify the objectives, design preferences, and desired functionalities of the project. This involved leading discussions and gathering insights to inform the creation of a brand toolkit, wireframes, and final design experience. Ultimately, I was responsible for bringing the vision to life by building the final product.
Due to its size, Google often has to deal with a lot of bureaucracy when launching new products. They also have to manage budgets and time constraints with their development team, which primarily focuses on external projects, making internal projects a lower priority and potentially extending project timeframes. Google Workspace, a subsidiary team of Google, faced such issues and turned to Ceros to reduce the time and cost of internal projects, ultimately lightening the workload of the Google development team. Ceros was tasked with creating a landing page to launch the new lineup of Workspace products, showcasing new features and pricing plans to the sales team for use in calls with new and existing clients. Instead of receiving a static one-page document with all the relevant information for the launch, Google desired an interactive piece that was engaging, polished, and mirrored the importance of the external launch internally. The ultimate goal of the project was to showcase Ceros as a viable tool for Google to create, update, and share engaging digital experiences internally, which would live on Google's intranet and align with their external design language.
As Google has a highly detailed brand language and guidelines, I had to work closely with their team to develop UI elements that matched their online presence within the Ceros studio. These UI elements were compiled into a library that could be easily accessed and utilized to create new experiences quickly. Collaborating with a representative from Google's sales team, I created low and high fidelity wireframes that included all the necessary information for the launch, with a flow optimized for the sales team. After the wireframes were approved, I proceeded to build both desktop and mobile experiences. The launch was a success, with Google highlighting the ease and timeliness of the project's completion. As a result, Google signed up for a Ceros Subscription. Now, multiple teams within Google use the Ceros studio to create top-of-the-line digital experiences, both internally and externally, resulting in healthy ARR for CEROS.

Reporting on Death and Grief.
In my role as the sole designer for a freelance project, I assumed multiple responsibilities, including UX and UI design, strategy development, and art direction. Working collaboratively with the Lantern CEO, we established project goals, design aesthetics, content, and functionality. To bring the vision to fruition, I developed wireframes, designed visual elements, and ultimately constructed the final product.
Elizabeth Eddy, my wife and the CEO of Lantern, approached me with her frustration over the insensitive and distasteful reporting of death within the US. She observed that writers and reporters often used clumsy language not out of malice, but due to ignorance and a lack of education on how to properly report on death and grief. This frustration led to the conception of the idea for a free, easy-to-use resource that could serve as a checklist for writers and reporters looking to improve their reporting on death. Eddy envisioned assembling the best thought leaders in the field to create a no-frills platform that would enhance the accuracy and sensitivity of reporting on this topic.
In close collaboration with the Lantern CEO, we first established the goals and envisioned how the resource would be utilized. Given our desire for a free, user-friendly platform, we carefully considered the amount of content that would be appropriate for the scope of the project. As a newly established venture with limited resources, we focused on the content and functionality rather than investing significant time and resources into branding and media sourcing. My responsibility was to create a design aesthetic that prioritized content and offered a user experience that allowed for quick and easy navigation without overwhelming the user with extensive text. I aimed to create a user interface that was efficient and clear while avoiding information overload. Once "Reporting on Death" was launched, it was shared with prominent media outlets such as the New York Times and the Wall Street Journal. The industry leaders who contributed to the content also shared it with their peers and contacts to spread knowledge and offer a valuable resource.

Necterine
In my role as a freelance designer, I played a pivotal part in working closely with the client to define the project's objectives, understand their design preferences, and determine the desired functionality. This entailed leading discussions, gathering insights, and steering the project in the right direction. To ensure adherence to both time and budget constraints, I also took on the role of project manager, keeping the client informed about the project's progress and proactively addressing any potential issues that might arise. Ultimately, my responsibility was to transform the vision into reality by executing the final product.
Constrained by time and budget limitations, it was determined that the most viable solution was to remain on the Squarespace platform but overhaul the design to better resonate with Nectarine's brand while enhancing user experience and flow. To begin, I conducted a thorough analysis of Nectarine's branding, focusing on elements such as typography, imagery, colors, and their social media presence, aiming for a cohesive brand identity. I implemented custom CSS on the Squarespace platform to integrate Nectarine's fonts and restructured the page hierarchy and elements to facilitate more efficient content consumption by users. Additionally, I revamped the use of color to create a higher contrast website for improved accessibility. Upon completing the redesign, Nectarine requested further enhancements, including a redesign of their article page and the creation of a hub to host their articles. For the hub, I designed a flexible structure capable of accommodating future articles, organizing them into five distinct categories for easy navigation and exploration.

Holly Laurel, CEO and Founder of Nectarine, initially crafted a landing page using Squarespace as a temporary measure while her MVP was in development and she secured funding for her company. Hindered by her limited knowledge and design skills, Laurel approached me to enhance her landing page to better reflect her new branding. Despite Nectarine's desire to completely rebuild the website with a bespoke design, constraints such as funding and timing played a role. Following the positive reception of the new design by the client, Nectarine also requested a new hub page to aggregate all their articles, alongside a redesign of their current article page layout.

Unity.
In my capacity as an Art Director, I was responsible for comprehending the client's predicament and devising the most optimal solution. I conceptualized and outlined the experience, incorporating novel elements and designs into their pre-existing static branding to form a cohesive interactive brand kit that Unity could utilize for all forthcoming ventures. Finally, I culminated the project by delivering the ultimate desktop and mobile builds.
Unity collaborated with Ceros in a pilot program to test out the Studio software, aiming to enhance their content output and reduce development time. The company recognized that their existing thought leadership content, which lacked creativity and interactivity, did not align with their values of innovative breakthroughs. Annually, Unity compiles a list of industry experts to share their insights on upcoming trends in the field. However, the previous years' reports, which were sent as a pdf via email, lacked engagement and creativity. Thus, Unity sought to create a novel digital experience that could serve as a template for all future thought leadership pieces on industry trends. Unity tasked us with designing an engaging and user-friendly experience that utilized interactivity to enrich the content and improve navigation for their end users. The aim was to create a seamless, easy-to-update experience that aligned with Unity's values and showcased their commitment to innovation.
In collaboration with our strategy team, we proposed to Unity the concept of developing a microsite that could be disseminated via email blast and also exist independently online, allowing for easy access and reference throughout the year. This microsite now serves as a blueprint for all of Unity's blog pages, which can be swiftly edited and published, drastically reducing costly and time-consuming development hours.
Unity is a cross-platform game engine developed by Unity Technologies, first announced and released in June 2005.
